Caroline Garcia came back from one set down to beat world number 48 Sonay l Kartal 5-7 6-4 6-3 in the first round of the Cincinnati Open. Garcia is playing her first tournament since Roland Garros.
Garcia won the first three games to race out to a 3-0 leadm but she did not convert three break points in the fourth game before dropping twice in the fifth and eleventh games to lose the first set 7-5.
Garcia went up a break in the second set, but Kartal broke back. Garcia broke again in the 10th game to win the second set 6-4. Garcia earned the only break in the fourth game to seal the third set 6-3.
Garcia set up a second round match against Karolina Muchova.
Garcia has received a wild ccard for the US Open, the final tournament of the season.
