Leylah Fernandez cruised past Anna Kalinskaya 6-1 6-2 in just one hour and nine minutes to win the Mubadala DC Citi Open in Washington.
Kalinskaya earned two break points in the the third game, but Fernandez saved them to open up a 2-1 lead. The Canadian won the next four games including two breaks of serve to close out the first set.
Fernandez raced out to a 5-1 lead in the second set before serving out for the match in the eighth game.
Fernandez will face Maya Joint in the first round of the WTA 1000 in Montreal.
“I want to dedicate this trophy to my mom, my oldest sister, and my fitness trainer. You guys have been fighting all year round and still are fighting. Thank you so much for never giving up on me. Don’t give up on yourselves. This trophy is for you guys. Hopefully we can celebrate all together very soon”, said Fernandez.
